Last August 2022, in Thessaloniki (Greece) Doctor Bui (DVM, Nor-Feed R&D team) shared new data obtained with our encapsulated grape extract during the 70th International Congress and Annual Meeting of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural product research (GA).
Rumen-by-pass formula of Nor-Grape® to protect active molecules from
Natural grape extract constituted of polyphenols has been proven for their beneficial effects on antioxidant defense and hormonal improvement in ruminants . It is proven that a rumen-by-pass formula of grape extract is crucial to protect its’ active molecules from degradation and deformation during ruminal retention period [3,4]. This present study measures the resistant capacity of the encapsulated grape polyphenols, anthocyanins and antioxidant activity (PNGE, Nor-Grape® BP-O) under ruminal fermentation condition (ex-vitro model), in comparison with its’ unprotected version, a soluble dry grape extract (UNGE).
At the beginning of the experiment (T0), both extracts possessed an equivalent level of polyphenols, anthocyanins and antioxidant activity. After 6 hours of fermentation (T6), UNGE content in polyphenol and anthocyanins reduced dramatically whereas PNGE content slightly reduced (2,5 to 3 times less reduction comparing to UNGE). Last but not least, the antioxidant capacity strongly reduced after 6 hours fermentation for UNGE (below 35%), whereas the antioxidant activity for PNGE remain above 80%. (Data not presented).
Thus, the obtained results demonstrated the high sensitivity of grape extract when undergoing rumen fermentation during 6 hours. In contrast, during this study the encapsulated version (PNGE) permits to reduce the loss of polyphenols, anthocyanins and antioxidant activity during rumen fermentation.
