Animal welfare is of utmost importance in all livestock production systems. When an animal is not able anymore to cope with his environment this can lead to discomfort and stress. This results in a poorer animal welfare and lower performances or product quality degradation (meat, eggs…). Depending on the stressor (endogenous or exogenous), the caused stress can be acute (ex. during transport) or chronic (ex. social stress).

Trial results

The  trial was performed in a pig selection station on 96 pigs (Pietrain, Large White, Landrace). Animals were randomly divided into two groups of the same proportions: the control and the treated group of pigs (1l/1000l of Durelax® Liquid in the water). In the treated group, the drinking water supplementation started 3 days before the regrouping and continued the day of the grouping. Aggressive events, like aggression, ear biting, tail biting and running were counted daily for four days based on daily 90 minutes observations. 

During this trial, the supplementation of Durelax® had a significant impact on the reduction of stress reactions for post-weaning pigs.
